Featured Databases

The purpose of World Book Kids is to provide students with access to a searchable database of articles including people, places, animals, art, social issues, science topics, and technology. Articles include multimedia such as videos, sound clips, photos, and maps. Articles are updated regularly.

CultureGrams provides access to information about the geography, culture, history, and current society of more than 200 countries. The site has four editions: World, Kids, States, and Provinces. The Kids Edition is designed specifically for elementary students. Students can choose location by using the index or clicking a map. A search box is available and rules for refining searches are provided. Students can also target their search by choosing the edition, recipes, famous people, pictures, or videos from a dropdown menu. Entries include data, information about the flag, and sound clips of the name and national anthem. A variety of maps, infographics, and other supplemental resources deepen students’ understandings of the content.

This resource provides students in third through fifth grades with access content directly connected to the Next Generation Science Standards. Articles are grouped into four categories; Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, and The Field of Science. Students can click on a category or use the search box to find specific topics. Below the main categories, students can access games, a question of the day, and experiments. Articles have tabs for each subtopic within the text. A dictionary tool is included beneath the article tabs along with activities, citation information, and related articles. Students may choose to have the article read aloud by clicking on speaker icon.
