Halloween is a favorite holiday for many kids because of all the candy they receive with the tradition of “trick or treating.” But have you ever thought about who originally made candy? People love sweets, and early man probably figured out that combining honey with other nuts and foods made a tasty treat. The word “candy” comes from the Persian word “qandi.” Historians say candies are mentioned in documents from ancient Egypt and credit them for inventing candy. Sugar, the main ingredient in candy, appeared in the Middle Ages, but it was only enjoyed by the rich.
